Tech Initiatives
Michigan Tech University developed a student enterprise program that has resulted in numerous student innovations. The innovations provide a direct benefit to a particular sponsoring corporation. The projects thus far have had tremendous potential for a commercial opportunity.
In addition, a support team was organized to help identify and conduct the necessary market assessment and complete the business development steps in order for the innovations to reach the marketplace. Established as SmartTrac, the core of this team consists of students from Michigan Technological University whom are supported by business professionals from Michigan Tech’s Technology & Economic Development office, Michigan Tech faculty and staff of the MTEC SmartZone (a local business incubator).
The CPR Mattress was born from this enterprise program. Already a great interest by the medical industry has already been shown. Upon UL certification approval and the appropriate funding, this product will hopefully land in the marketplace soon.
